Talking about Andorra in winter inevitably means talking about winter sports. And plenty of adrenaline. The thrill of skiing challenging runs such as Àliga or Avet in Grandvalira, ski touring or pulling off seemingly impossible tricks in a snowpark is almost a given. That is why we have selected a few other options that may not yet be on your adventure radar.

Skiing through areas where no one has ventured before and performing jumps and turns at full speed is the perfect way to satisfy your craving for an extra dose of excitement. Several ski resorts across the Principality offer these off-piste descents, but take a look at the routes available at Grandvalira: there are options for skiers with intermediate to expert ability. There is even a ski school with its own Freeride Center.

At Pal Arinsal, they have decided that mountain biking can also be enjoyed during the winter season. That is why its Winter Bike Park, which has hosted World Cup events, opens throughout the winter season whenever weather and ground conditions allow. Mountain biking enthusiasts can therefore enjoy downhill runs and jumps on the trails in the lower section of the Bike Park. There are five trails in total, with a 700-metre vertical drop and 16 kilometres of routes.

Màgic Gliss is best described as a cross between a slide and a roller coaster. It features a 555-metre descent and can reach speeds of up to 40 km/h. All that excitement comes with the spectacular snow-covered landscapes of the Canillo sector as a backdrop. Take the experience up a notch by choosing to complete one of the descents wearing a virtual reality headset. You will find all this at Mon(t) Màgic Family Park, which also boasts a 550-metre zip wire. It covers the distance between Planells del Forn and Lake Forn, reaches speeds of 80 km/h and, yes, it is open in winter.

This activity could easily be described as adrenaline for everyone. Well, almost everyone, as it is not suitable for children under 14, while anyone aged between 14 and 17 must be accompanied by a responsible adult throughout the outing. Moonbikes are electric snow bikes capable of reaching 40 km/h. They are perfect for picking up speed, even if you are not in peak physical condition to power your own ride. One place where you can hire moonbikes is Naturland, where the activity takes place with an expert instructor who will explain how to ride them and guide you through the natural surroundings of La Rabassa.

At first glance, making your way across the snow on snowshoes, at whatever pace your legs can manage, might not sound particularly adventurous. However, when the activity takes place after nightfall, beneath the moon and stars, everything changes. The snow turns silvery white, the cold gradually fades as your body works harder, and you will feel silence take over everything until it becomes almost overwhelming. Adrenaline? Perhaps not. Emotion? Absolutely. Guided night-time excursions are regularly organised around Grau Roig, in Grandvalira.
