It is widely known that May is the month of flowers. It is also no secret that some cities celebrate them in style, organising events where floral art takes centre stage. Nature takes over the streets, colour fills every corner and beauty becomes the main attraction. If you ask us, these are our favourites.

Mention Córdoba and its famous patios immediately come to mind. Especially when spring arrives and these spaces are dressed up to take part in the Córdoba Patios Festival. The colourful flowers and pots hanging from their walls become even more abundant and exuberant, while also adorning the distinctive cobbled floors that characterise these traditional courtyards. Some owners add an extra touch of charm by using antique furniture as decorative elements, while others are lucky enough to have wells or fountains, accompanied by the hypnotic sound of flowing water. Falling in love is guaranteed.

This festival, which has been declared Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity, is actually a competition featuring around fifty residential courtyards in the historic centre. Entry is free and open to everyone: simply stroll through the city and step inside those that are open to visitors. There is one week each year when floral installations and arrangements take over Girona. Large, colourful, beautiful and surprising, they spread throughout the city, hanging from façades, climbing the steps leading up to the Cathedral, appearing in squares here and there, around unexpected street corners or inside iconic monuments. A city that was already full of beauty becomes even more spectacular. And more surprising too. You don’t often find a pink rubber flamingo in the Arab Baths or bicycles suspended in the courtyard of Casa Sambola.

This week is known as Temps de Flors. In 2025, it celebrates its 70th edition, and if you visit, you will be able to say, without exaggeration: “Girona as you have never seen it before”.
