It is not only the island’s most famous beach, but also one of the best urban beaches in Europe. Las Canteras really does have it all: a prime location in the heart of Las Palmas, more than three kilometres of shoreline for those who enjoy long walks by the sea, sun lounger and parasol hire, calm waters that are ideal for children, and a few waves at either end of the beach for anyone keen to take to a surfboard. Although it is one of the island’s most popular beaches, its sheer size means it never feels overcrowded. It has charm to spare, and that is before even mentioning its famous dunes and the hypnotic sight of the wind shaping their contours. And yes, there is sometimes a breeze, which makes it ideal for those looking to go surfing. Maspalomas is, without a doubt, one of the best beaches in the south of Gran Canaria.

At the foot of the charming fishing village of Tufia lies a small stretch of black sand. Do not let its size put you off, as the real attraction is beneath the surface. Its calm, crystal-clear waters conceal caves just a few metres deep, making it an ideal place for anyone keen to try diving for the first time. Located on the east coast of the island, very close to the airport, it is perfectly placed for one last swim before heading home — and for the satisfaction of saying you have taken a dip in one of Gran Canaria’s finest coves.

Perfect for anyone looking to get away from it all. This beach on the west coast of the island can only be reached after a two-hour walk from the village of Tasartico or by boat from Mogán. Trust us, the effort will be worth it when you come face to face with its towering rock walls, stroll across its fine volcanic sand or plunge into its refreshingly cool waters. One of Gran Canaria’s most beautiful beaches also boasts exceptional views: on clear days, you can see the silhouette of Mount Teide on the horizon.
