Almeria: city of history, sun and cinema

The streets of Almería can say that they have seen almost everything, that they have plenty of history, that Arabs and Jews, poets and singers, intrepid archaeologists and kings of fantastic worlds have passed through its cobblestones, and now they want you to pass through them.

Almeria is a city where you can stand tall. If not, ask them to tell you when you are climbing up to the Castillo de San Cristóbal. Once there, you will find seven towers from different periods and a huge pedestal on which rests a sculpture of the Sacred Heart of Jesus. It is as impressive as the views you will have of the city. From here, you can get an idea of the immensity of the Alcazaba.

Undoubtedly, it is this Alcazaba that will catch your eye as soon as you arrive in the city. The perimeter of the mosque, built by Abderramán III, measures 1,430 metres, making it the largest Muslim building in Spain after the Alhambra.

Go inside to visit it, stroll among cisterns, remains of rooms, parade grounds, towers and a Christian castle. Yes, the Catholic Monarchs also built an enclosure inside it when they conquered Almería.

The Medina unfolds at the foot of the Alcazaba. This is where Almería was born and where once there were dockyards, souks, bazaars and bazaars, today there are narrow streets with low, colourful houses.

Take a leisurely stroll and, when you have finished, head towards the Cathedral of the Incarnation. You can also head towards the cathedral-fortress, because this temple was built not only for prayer, but also to protect a population that suffered from pirate attacks.

And if all this has sounded interesting to you, wait until we tell you that Almería also hides stories underground, that of the Refugios de la Guerra Civil.

During the war, the city was involved in the creation of 4.5 kilometres of galleries. Today, around 1 kilometre has been recovered, with recreated rooms such as the storeroom, pantry and operating theatre.

There are many attractions still to be discovered. So many that you probably don't even know it. So, stay at our hotel in Almería and don't let distances and journeys rob you of your time in the city.

A city of sunshine is best enjoyed in our hotel in Almeria near the beach

The sun is blazing hot in Almeria during the summer months and pleasantly warm the rest of the year. Sometimes so much so that the chance to swim in its beaches will be a constant temptation, whatever the season.

The city has three kilometres of urban beaches. The San Miguel, Zapillo and Nueva Almería beaches run along the promenade and have all the necessary services for a day of sun and waves, one of those that can only get better if you return home quickly. It’s just 10 minutes by car, which is how long it takes you to get to our hotel just a stone's throw from the coast.

Experience a city of cinema in our hotel in Almeria

If you put together a fortress, underground passages, beaches with swings and names like Conan the Barbarian, Indina Jones or Kingdom of Dorne in the same city, maybe you can say yes, it's a city to visit with the family

This city sometimes turns into a real film set. They will tell you more about it at the Casa del Cine, located 10 minutes walk from our hotel in Almeria, perfect to stay with children.

Maybe you can use the walk there to tell them who The Beatles were. Why? Because John Lenon also lived within these four walls and was inspired to compose Strawberry Fields Forever.
