        Guipúzcoa in blue

And they know a lot about nature in this province. We recommend that you get some fresh air in the Aralar Natural Park, not only the cradle of hiking but also the home of Idiazábal cheese. In the area, Tolosa and Ordizia hold their traditional markets.

If you want more greenery, the Aizkorri-Aratz Natural Park will leave you speechless. Especially when you reach the Shrine of Arantzazu. We know, you can't help but wonder how it stands upright hanging from that ravine.

And if what your body wants is to eat and drink well, why not take a break to enjoy the Txotx? It is a ritual in which Basques go to cider houses to sample the cider of the season before it is bottled. In the glass, cider, yes; and on the plate, beef chops, cod omelettes, cheese and quince jelly.

You can't talk about Guipúzcoa without mentioning the sea and the villages that dot its rugged coastline. The longest beach on this coastline can be found in Zarautz. Its 2.5 kilometres are one of the favourite meeting points for surf lovers in the province. Please note that if you are not a boarder, you are also welcome.

Continue a little further west until you reach Getaria. There, its lighthouse awaits you, solitary and brave, facing a Bay of Biscay that sometimes roars so loud that it's scary. And even further out, the sea and the rock have been waging a war of erosion for years. The result? A flysch that will exhaust the memory of your smartphone. Smile, this marvellous place is Guipúzcoa.

        Guipúzcoa in green

Art and nature intermingle in the province of Guipúzcoa. To see for yourself, you can start by walking to the unforgettable Chillida Leku museum. Here the work of the famous artist occupies up to 11 hectares of land. In total, 40 sculptures are on display in the open air for you to stroll among them, unhurriedly and eagerly.

In the Sanctuary of Loyola, the architecture of this building is responsible for the art. If it is incredible on its own, just wait until you enter the nature of the Urola Valley in which it is located.
